After asking those who had been to Kauai before, everyone suggested taking a boat tour along the Napali Coast. So we drove back to the south side of the island and boarded a boat for a coast tour, snorkeling, and whale watching.
The kids loved going fast on the boat and ramping the waves!
Immediately we saw a group of bottlenose dolphins which aren't that common around that area.
Then we rounded the bottom of the island and started heading up the Napali coast. The mountains started to become steeper and greener.
There were waterfalls along the way.
We even got up close to some sea caves but the surf was too high to go in. Unfortunately, that meant no snorkeling either.
Thankfully, we made it up to the Napali coast cathedral before the rain made us turn around.
The entire coast had a very majestic feel.
Every winter, the humpback whales make the journey down from the Alaskan waters to deliver their young in the warmer waters around Hawaii and boy did we got incredibly lucky with the humpback whales! We saw quite a few and some up close.
We even saw a baby jump out of the water but unfortunately my camera was not ready.
The power of nature was captured in this tour with the awe inspiring mountains, powerful waterfalls, speed of the dolphins, and presence of the whales.
The crew let us jump off the boat and ride the waves on the bow. Everyone had a really fun time being out on the water and seeing and experiencing new things. And let's not forget the delicious ham sandwiches!
On the way back to port, we found some spinner dolphins that swam right under the boat.
And the day would not be complete in Hawaii without a shave ice. This was my personal favorite: almond joy with toasted almonds and a coconut cream topping (and macadamia nut ice cream at the bottom of course).
