We stayed on the north shore which is absolutely beautiful with the green mountains running into the ocean and numerous waterfalls revealed when the clouds part. But the north shore is also the rainy shore and on our first day we got quite a bit of rain and clouds. The temperature is so mild that the sun is needed to stay warm so it was a bit chilly, but we took advantage of every sun ray and explored a few beaches and rode the waves in Hanalei Bay.
There were many of these red headed birds on the beach.
Hanalei Bay was just a few minutes from our house and was surrounded by mountains. The reef and bay made the surf perfect for boogie boarding.
Buggy found a fun activity and a friend.
We ate lunch in the little town of Hanalei. This place had amazing food.
This ended up being our favorite shave ice place on the entire island.
After lunch, we headed further around the island to Tunnels Beach. There was a small river that ran into the ocean that the kids played in and found numerous shells. The snorkeling here was really great and the kids really enjoyed seeing all the different kinds of fish and coral.
The jagged, green covered mountains brought back memories of Tahiti.
We continued even further west until almost the end of the road and found this dry cave in the side of the mountain.
It was huge in there!
It kept going further back but got too dark and there were lots of spiders.
We got home in time for another gorgeous sunset.
When we were at Tunnels, a coconut happened to fall from a tree and Gavin was super excited to get into it.
There also was a lemon tree outside and he made himself some lemonade.
