Labor Day Leisure

What a fun weekend we had touring the sights close to Ohio! We stopped by Niagara Falls and the church history sights, Kirtland and Palmyra. The weather was cool and the country side beautiful. These are places we have wanted to see for a long time but are a bit out of the way. Who knew Ohio would be our ticket!

We visited Niagara on the Canada side. These falls are huge! Those little boats in the water hold 600 people! Not so small after all!

The American Falls. They are so beautiful as well but unfortunately get overlooked by the horseshoe falls.

The top of the Falls. The walk way literally went right up to the side. It allowed you to really get the feeling of how much water was falling over the side.

We viewed the Falls from every angle: above, sideways, and below.

To get the below angle, we took a boat to the bottom of the Falls. The mist is so heavy it makes is difficult to see.

Ayden liked to look at the water but didn't like to get wet.

KIRTLAND

We took a tour of the temple which was beautiful.

This is what Ayden preferred to be doing: running away from Mom and Dad.

The saw mill and ashery in old down town Kirtland. Owned by N.K. Whitney, he gave all the profits towards the building of the temple.

Inside the ashery, the only one still standing in the country.

They broke down ash into many different products.

PALMYRA

The family home of Joseph Smith. Eleven people lived in this cabin while they were building their larger home. This is a replica built on the original foundation. The attic room is where the Angel Moroni came and spoke to Joseph.

We also toured the print shop where the Book of Mormon was first printed and learned about that amazingly tedious process. It was inspiring to stand in the places where such great events took place.
