There are tons of fun things to do in Costa Rica. One day everyone (minus Mom, Richard, and myself) went zip lining through the jungle. There were 10 separate zip lines and 2 repels. They had a great time.
We wanted to go horseback riding but didn't want to over pay for a robot horse who has ridden the same trail its entire life. So, one day while talking with the staff that worked at the house, Zach expressed his interest in riding "crazy horses" around the Costa Rican country side. Luckily, the husband of the cook owns horses and was delighted to take us all around the mountain side for half the price and twice the experience.
This is Hernan telling Garrett in his broken English: "She's small but strong."
And he was right. As soon as Hernan let go of her reins she started running up the hill, then started jumping trying to buck Garrett off, hitting Garrett's face with the back of her head, making him fall off onto the rocky trail, and then stepped on his leg before she ran off. So, not a great start and we were definitely reminded these were not robot horses but the crazy horses Zach had requested!
(Garrett is ok by the way. He had a few bruises and was shaken up. But he literally "got back on the horse." However, they traded his in for "almost dead" and Garrett had an uneventful ride.)
Zach, however, was given the horse named Hurricane. This is the group walking leisurely with Zach no where to be seen. Hurricane had a lot of energy and galloped everywhere. At one point, I rounded the corner to see Zach riding Hurricane like John Wayne, as fast as he could in an open field. He seriously looked like a seasoned cowboy. Unfortunately, the horses were Spanish speaking, so we quickly learned the appropriate commands. It was fun to actually control the horse and I even got up to a gallop a few times. We hiked up quite a hill and had a spectacular view of the country side and the ocean.
After the ride, Hernan let the girls take a ride. They loved it.
I was proud of Ayden for riding. She is getting more brave.
It was Anistyn's 5th birthday while we were there. We had a fun party.
We had lovely dinners every night at home, kid free. It was nice to put them to bed and enjoy adult conversation.
