The beloved Digger Dash was early this year and the girls were ready to defend their championship from last year. They knew what they had to do and they went out there and did it...again!
Aislin's class were the Tigers. She ran the entire 20 minutes in the hot weather wearing her scarf and fluffy ears. Aislin stayed in the center, kept running, and never took a water break. That's how you win and win she did! She ran 16 laps and beat all the girls and beat most of the boys.
Raegan's class were the Peaches.
Raegan was determined to win because, well she's always determined to win, but especially because this was her last year. She stuck to the plan and did not waver. She ran 39 laps, which is around 5 miles, in 40 minutes. She totally crushed it. Not only was she the winner but she ran the most laps in the entire school. Now that's a finish to remember!
After many disappointing years with our peach trees, we finally had success this year and it was incredible! Both trees produced hundreds of peaches. I even thinned half of them off so that the branches wouldn't break and the peaches would grow bigger. We got so many peaches!
Haven: Red, sweet, juicy
Elberta: yellow/orange, oval, smaller, a bit tart, juicy.
The peaches started ripening around the same time, the Elbertas a little faster. We picked every day for about a week straight. Each day was a massive amount of peaches. And we lost a large amount to the birds, bugs, and rabbits that ate them the minute they dropped to the ground.
We gave a lot of them away, froze quite a bit, and ate them like candy. And made peach everything.
Peaches and cream french toast
Peach scones with brown sugar glaze
...and obviously lots and lots of peach crisp.
