A few days after Christmas, Garrett's family flew over to visit for a couple days. We hung out, played games, spent an entire day at Urban Air, celebrated Mom's birthday, and had a wonderful visit.
The kids and I did some Garage Box.
Then it was my best friend's 40th birthday, so I made her a cinnamon strudel cake with brown sugar cinnamon frosting.
It was delicious!

Gavin qualified for the Geography Bee at middle school.
And then it was Patrick's birthday.

After Thanksgiving, we started working on a fireplace surround project. It was a cramped trip back from Home Depot, but we got it all in the van...Dad included!
The fireplace was very underwhelming and disproportionate to the room. The vision always starts with painters tape.
Dad did a 12 ft miter cut on the table saw to get the 45 on the legs. Once those were installed, we started building on piece by piece.
We used giant crown we had to search all over Denver for, but it was definitely what it needed. Patrick helped us put it up since it was so heavy.
We added some paneling to hide the wall texture and then the finishing work begins. Already looks better.
I have been slowly but surely working on finishing the fireplace surround since Christmas. Lots of putty, sanding, caulk, and painting...and more caulk and more painting...and a bit more painting. And finally it's done! Much better proportions on the wall and in the room. It tones down the TV and adds some warmth into the big room.
The light was perfectly highlighting the brilliant hazel color of Raegan's eyes.
