Tahiti

Welcome to Tahiti! It's been a bucket list item for me so when Patrick's assistant was taking some time off of work and Mom and Dad offered to watch the kids, it seemed like all the stars aligned. I wanted a relaxing, warm vacation in an incredible place and so Tahiti was the perfect fit! After looking at numerous package deals, I decided to plan my own trip so we could do exactly what we wanted: 3 days on each of the most popular 3 islands. We had a great flight full of snacks, movies, and plenty of room to stretch out. We arrived late in the night and got a cab for our short drive to the hotel. Then we woke up to this! Supposedly, this is the rainy season in Tahiti but other than a passing storm every day, we had beautiful weather. Sure beats the snow we left behind in Colorado!

The Manava hotel grounds were beautiful. We spent 3 days on the island of Tahiti, relaxing and doing some sightseeing.

There was a dock that went out into the ocean in a circle so everyone had an unobstructed view of the water and the entire island of Moorea.

We watched the clouds morph over Moorea every day. As they blew by, they'd get caught on the mountain peaks and change formations with the weather.

The infinity pool was spectacular.

Sunsets on the dock were picturesque every night. We would grab some baguettes and butter from the market down the street and some diet coke and spend the evening out on a longue chair.

We hiked up a random road and got a look around the local part of the island.

These spotted rays kept swimming around the dock.

One day we rented a car and drove the entire perimeter of the island, which is really the only road that is in good condition. This tree is literally growing out of the rock.

We stopped by some beautiful beaches.

Even a few beaches with black sand.

We tried to drive in to the interior of the island to get a feel for the lush, mountain landscape. There were waterfalls at every turn.

But as you can see, there were numerous pot holes at every turn as well...filled with water so you don't know how deep they were.

Dueling waterfalls.

We kept going until we got to this...the road covered by a river. But we actually got further than anticipated and it was awesome to see the inside of the island untouched by people.

We stopped by one of the bigger and more popular waterfalls on the island.

As we continued our drive, we spotted more and more waterfalls.

We came across another black sand beach. It was amazing how few people were around. It was the "off season" and we basically had the island to ourselves.

We also stopped by where the big waves crash off shore, home of some big surfing competition.

A view of Tahiti on our way to Moorea.
