Lisa's Baby Shower

This baby shower has been a long time in the making. Lisa and I have known each other since we were about 5 years old. We did gymnastics together, attended all 12 grades together, did cheerleading together and remained close friends through college even though we lived across the country. She was in my wedding and I was in hers. We each started trying to have a baby around the same time as well. However, Lisa has continued to try over the past 3 years with no success. We talked about it often and she always kept a positive outlook. We were there for one another: she helped me through my miscarriages and I helped her through multiple infertility treatments. Then finally this past March I got a call, as I was literally sailing away on a cruise, that she got a positive pregnancy test! When she went to the doctor there were 2 little heart beats! A few months later, the ultrasound revealed a boy and girl! Everyone is so excited and so it only seemed fit that I throw Lisa a shower. After all her struggles, I wanted to make sure it was exactly what she wanted. I admit, I think I got a bit in over my head, but it turned out perfect and I think ended up perfect for Lisa.

The shower was held at the University Center at the stadium. Lisa is about 23 weeks. We barely fit in the shower before she is on travel restrictions.

I found this bird invitation and loved it. Then I ran with the bird/nesting theme for the twin baby shower.

I wanted a few hints of pink and blue, so I cut out these birds for the guests to write down their parenting advice for Lisa.

As people arrived, they took a bird off the tree, wrote their advice, and then I placed the birds in an album so Lisa could look back at them during those 3am feedings!

Lisa had been emailing me her ultrasound pictures throughout her pregnancy. I wrote on each picture the fetal age and displayed them so everyone could see the progress through the past weeks. I staggered them on top of pregnancy books.

Marjorie painted the bird houses pink and blue.

I made this 14 ft banner for the backdrop behind the gifts. I cut up 8 different types of fabric into strips and tied them onto a ribbon. Most of them were neutral with a few touches of pink and blue.

And Dad's craftiness came to the rescue as I had no way to actually hang the banner. He quickly made a wood frame that assembled easily and saved the day and my sanity!

The club did all the food so at least I didn't have to worry about that.

The table centerpieces and favors.

Each guest took home a cupcake favor.

I made carrot cake cupcakes and decorated them with a bird's nest and 2 eggs, for the twins.

Dad helped me shave the chocolate for the nests and I used yogurt covered raisins for the eggs.
I was pleased with the result.

The centerpieces were simple: using sticks, babys breath, and a candle.

I found these bird house picks that tied it all together.

We had a great turn out and fantastic time seeing friends.

Marjorie helped me with the shower which was a great success!

I'm excited for Lisa and am so glad we are celebrating these miracle babies! It'll be fun experiencing parenthood together!

This is the most gorgeous baby shower I have ever seen! You, woman, have been grossly exaggerating my talents all of these years while secretly harboring these mad skills. I love every detail, it is fabulous!
